Privacy Policy
Organic Chemistry AI ("we", "our", or "the app") helps you solve organic chemistry problems by scanning a photo or typing your problem, then showing a step-by-step AI solution. This policy explains what information is processed when you use the app and how we protect it.
1. Information we process
Problem images and text. When you scan a problem with your camera, select a photo from your library, or type a problem, the image or text is sent over HTTPS to our backend (a Cloudflare Worker). The Worker sends it to OpenCode Zen first to generate a solution, and to OpenRouter only if that first attempt fails or times out. The image is processed to extract the problem and is not stored after the request.
Anonymous device identifier. A random UUID stored on your device (UserDefaults/Keychain) is used to enforce free-solve limits and link your App Store subscription. It is not your name, email, or Apple ID. For operations we store only a short hash of this identifier, never the raw value in logs or alerts.
Level and preferences. Your course level (High School, College, or Graduate) selected during onboarding is sent with solve requests to tailor explanation depth. This stays on your device.
Purchase information. Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to verify Pro status. We do not receive your payment card details.
Optional “Report a Problem”. If you use in-app Report a Problem or Report to Admin, we send diagnostics to the developer via Telegram: app version, device model, whether you are on Pro, a hashed device id, an error code, and only the note you typed. We never attach homework photos, typed problems, chat transcripts, or answers.
Usage metrics. We keep aggregated counts (how many solves, tokens, and estimated AI cost) to operate the service. We do not use advertising SDKs or ad trackers.
Local data on your device. Your solve history, favorites, theme, and onboarding answers are stored locally on your iPhone using SwiftData. This data does not leave your device unless you back up your phone through Apple.
On-device tools. The built-in organic chemistry calculators, pH & unsaturation explorer, bundled quizzes, functional group cheat sheet, reaction mechanism library, and formula reference run entirely on your device. Using these features sends no data to us. Tutor chat and flashcards generated from a solution go through our Worker and the AI providers above.
2. What we do not collect
- No account registration or email required to use the app
- No advertising trackers or third-party ad SDKs
- We do not sell your personal information
- We do not store your solved problem images server-side
- No analytics or advertising SDK — only a local free-solve counter and aggregated operational metrics (counts, tokens, cost)
3. How AI solving works
Your submitted problem image or text is sent over HTTPS to our backend API. The default AI provider is OpenCode Zen; OpenRouter is used only as a fallback if Zen fails or times out. The request includes only the problem content needed to produce a solution and your anonymous device ID for rate limiting. It is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID. Problem images are not stored on our servers after the request completes.
4. Camera & photo library access
Scan mode uses your camera and Apple's photo picker. You choose a specific image; we do not scan your entire photo library in the background. Crop-to-problem happens on-device before upload. Camera access is requested only when you tap Scan, and can be denied or revoked at any time in iOS Settings.

5. Data retention
Server-side rate-limit counters are stored temporarily and linked only to your anonymous device ID. We do not maintain a long-term archive of your problem images or content on our servers after a request completes. History and favorites on your device remain until you delete them or uninstall the app.
6. Children's privacy
Organic Chemistry AI is an educational tool intended for students aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Your rights
Depending on your region, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data. Because we use minimal identifiers, deleting the app and clearing local data removes most information associated with your use. For subscription data, manage your account through Apple.
8. International users
Our backend infrastructure may process data in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the app, you consent to this processing for the purpose of delivering the service.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
